Dr. Tomike Olawande
Dr. Tomike Ibironke Olawande is an accomplished academic and healthcare professional with a wealth of experience spanning sociology, healthcare, and leadership. She holds a PhD in Sociology (2017), an MSc in Sociology (2013), a BSc in Sociology and Anthropology (2010), and an NVQ Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (2023). She is in process of completing a Level 5 NVQ Diploma in Leadership and Management for Adult Care.
Dr. Olawande has a distinguished academic career, having worked as a lecturer in Sociology at Covenant University from 2017 to 2022. She taught courses such as Medical Sociology, Sociology of Health and Illness Behavior, Gender and Development, Demography, and Applied Demography, contributing significantly to her students’ academic growth. Her research interests center on Mental Health and Illness, Medical Sociology, Population and Development, Applied Demography, and Gender and Development. Her work has been published in peer-reviewed journals indexed in Scopus and Google Scholar, covering critical topics such as Alzheimer’s treatment pathways, barriers to mental healthcare access, and gender dynamics in mental health perceptions.
She has served as a Programme Leader, mentored students and junior colleagues, and contributed to university governance through committee membership. Additionally, she has been a reviewer for prominent journals like SSM-Qualitative Research in Health, SAGE Open, and Heliyon, reflecting her commitment to advancing sociological knowledge globally.
Transitioning to healthcare, Dr. Olawande is currently a Senior Carer at Hartford Court Carehome, where she began working in May 2023. She has also served as a Healthcare Assistant and Support Worker in different settings since 2022. Her experience includes administering medications, assisting residents with personal care and mobility, monitoring those with behavioral challenges, and liaising with healthcare professionals to ensure optimal care.
Dr. Olawande’s career reflects a unique combination of academic excellence and practical healthcare expertise, driven by her passion for improving health outcomes and fostering societal well-being. She is a member of professional organizations like the International Sociological Association (ISA) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (MNIM), underscoring her professional dedication and global outlook.
She has supervised and mentored both undergraduate and graduate students. Dr Tomike Olawande is happily married with children.
